Wheel Building Course
Wheel building is a really rewarding skill to learn and not nearly as hard as some people would have you believe! On this course you will be taught how to turn rims, hubs and a bunch of spokes into strong, reliable wheels, as we guide you step-by-step through the techniques of lacing, tensioning and truing a bicycle wheel.
We’ll also look at tools for the job, and how to measure spokes and select other components. No previous experience or particular mechanical brillliance is required. Lots of help and guidance will be on hand, with class size limited to eight.
The course is run from our professionally equipped community workshop, with all tools and parts supplied. All you need to bring is yourself!
Cost includes a vegetarian/vegan lunch, and free refreshments throughout the day.
What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
If you’re not arriving by bike (which of course we recommend), parking is available directly outside the workshop on Ayr Street. The High School tram stop is 400m away and the NCT turquoise bus service (77-80) stops on Alfreton Road.
What should I bring with me?
Nothing but yourself. Please don’t bring your own wheels or parts. You’ll only be using stuff we supply, which gets returned to us at the end of the day. This is also a very hands-on course so come in comfortable clothing that you don’t mind getting dirty.
Can I book my child onto the course with me?
For health and safety reasons all attendees must be 18 and over – so you can if your child is an adult!
